Clubs

JEDIS (Jesuit Educated Disciples in Service) are a select group of juniors and seniors who apply and are chosen to be faith-based leaders on campus. Their leadership increases the spiritual vitality of the school by planning and implementing campus-wide liturgies, class retreats, and other faith-based experiences.  

The purpose of the Black Student Union (BSU) is to promote activities of common interest, as well as cultural and educational benefits for every student. The unions will strive to unite and educate students about their cultural heritage, by promoting leadership and stressing academic excellence.

The purpose of the Latino Student Union (LSU) is to develop unity among all students through growth from shared experiences as well learning through difference in experience. This is to motivate one another to reach higher goals and standards of success and in life. 

Membership in the National Honor Society is recognition of outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, character, leadership and service. Additionally, NHS members must maintain a minimum 3.0 GPA. The NHS mission is to fully prepare students for post-secondary academic success and to work toward the improvement of the school and greater community.  

Mock Trial offers Verbum Dei Jesuit students the opportunity to roleplay in fictional trials so they can learn about the American judicial system. The purpose of Mock Trial is to develop analytical and argumentative skills while preparing for statewide competitions. 

The purpose of the Emerging Leaders, sponsored by board member Dr. Frank Luntz, is to expose Verb students to as many professional success stories with backgrounds like Verb students. This includes individuals in corporate, politics, social enterprises, and entrepreneurs. Between 8-10 students will participate in trips to Washington D.C. and New York City to meet with politicians, community and corporate leaders.  

LA Strong is Verbum Dei Jesuit High School's club for students interested in health care careers. LA Strong co-sponsors 3 all-school blood drives at Verbum Dei Jesuit in coordination with Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.  The club also trains students in taking measurements of basic health parameters (blood pressure, pulse, oxygen level, electrocardiogram, deep tendon reflexes), and helps them explore associated physiologic responses to exercise protocols.  LA Strong also supports their interests in exploring in more detail the training requirements that must be fulfilled for various health care careers in which they are interested. 

FBLA is the oldest and largest student-led business organization in the world. Verbum Dei Jesuit’s FBLA chapter helps students prepare for careers in business through academic competitions, leadership development, and educational programs. 

The purpose of the engineering club is to develop technical and scientific knowledge of Verbum Dei Jesuit students and to help them find potential career paths inside of the engineering industry. The club will focus on expanding science beyond the school curriculum and exploring the world of physics in order to connect nature and reality. 

The Boss club provides a space for students to think, reflect, create, collaborate and engage in real-world business scenarios. The club explores what it means to be an entrepreneur and what an entrepreneur actually does. Club members will learn what it takes to start, run, and own a business—the risks, rewards, needs, and expectations. 

The goal of the Psychology club is to educate students about the basic principles of psychology and to give students an opportunity to learn more about mental health/illness to reduce the stigma associated with it. Students will have an opportunity to participate in different psychology activities, host awareness activities, explore careers in the field of psychology, and conduct individual research on psychological concepts of students' choices. 

The Sports Management Club manages Verbum Dei Jesuit sports. Managers collaborate with coaches to ensure team success along with managing social media accounts, interviews, game-day protocol and ensuring practices and games run smoothly. The club enables students to look at the in-depth view of managing a team to be successful.  

The Music club does all things music related, whether that’s listening to music, talking about the latest albums, or debating which artist is better. Students also have an opportunity to play the drum set, piano, bass guitar, guitar, or make beats. 

Creative Writing Club provides an opportunity for students to both build community and their writing ability in a supportive environment.

The Theatre Club exposes Verbum Dei Jesuit students to the first principles of Theatre Art through activities such as: watching plays, learning theatrical terms, and more. Students in the club will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience with rendering props, costumes, and make-up.  

The Big Screen Club hopes to teach Verbum Dei Jesuit students the ins and outs of the film industry. From writing screenplays, understanding post-production, the Big Screen Club exposes students to Hollywood and what it means to work in Hollywood. Students in the club all share a love for movies and a love for creativity, and this shared passion will help them make their own short film! 

The Campus Beautification Club strives to enhance the atmosphere and beauty of our campus.  We strive to model how to be respectful and responsible for our school community.  The club is student-led and seeks to respond to the desires of all stakeholders by planning and conducting beautification projects.

The Social Media Team aims to capture the Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP) experience for the various stakeholders (applicants, corporate sponsors, parents & legal guardians, etc). Through our dedicated team of students, we are working towards shedding light on how student associates interact and grow within their corporate environments.

The purpose of Film Club sponsored by Underground Films is to introduce Verbum Dei Jesuit students to the fundamentals of media, which include digital design, video development, media arts, entertainment marketing, film making-screenwriting, producing, shooting, directing and editing. Aside from viewing groundbreaking media, going on exciting field trips and meeting important industry professionals, Verbum Dei Jesuit students have the opportunity to create and screen their own student film/music videos and design their own media ads!  

The Eagle Advancement Club is a group of students that serves as Mission Advancement student representatives. Being a valuable member of the team, students are offered a unique opportunity to build and strengthen communication skills, learn the nuances of networking and continue to develop work experience in different capacities.

A Verbum Dei Jesuit Student Ambassador is a resident representative of his school. The ambassador provides guidance and support to inner-city elementary and middle school students regarding their educational goals for high school.
