Campus Ministry

Verbum Dei Jesuit offers a multitude of ways for students to deepen their understanding of themselves and others as individuals who are deeply loved by God.

One of the central tenets that animates Verbum Dei Jesuit is cura personalis, a Latin phrase meaning “care of the whole person.” This includes care for the health and growth of our students’ spiritual lives. Campus Ministry brings faith alive through the Sacraments (liturgies, reconciliation services, etc.), retreats, and an active Christian service program.

In addition to offering retreats, liturgies, and service/social justice opportunities, our Campus Ministry Team hosts various clubs and groups that meet throughout the year to give students an opportunity to grow in their faith and build relationships with one another.

Ways to Serve

Liturgy

Christian Service

Verbum Dei Jesuit students are "men for others" who learn the importance of giving back to their community through our Christian Service program. Students are provided with the opportunities to help various communities, such as the elderly, visiting the sick, coaching and tutoring the youth, etc. Each student is required to complete a minimum number of service hours each year, adding up to at least 100 hours by the time they graduate.

Retreats

Retreats are an integral part of the personal and spiritual formation of Verbum Dei Jesuit students. All students participate in a retreat experience during each of their four years, which are all held off-campus. Freshmen and sophomores each have a day-long retreat. Juniors experience the 4-day Kairos retreat, and seniors have a 3-day retreat to help them prepare for the next stage of their life.

Navajo Service Immersion Trip (Diné)

Each spring break, students in grades 10, 11 and 12 have the opportunity to apply for the Navajo Service Immersion Trip. Eighteen students are selected. The trip is to Navajo Nation in southeast Utah, along the way we stop to see the Grand Canyon. Once in Utah, we immerse ourselves in Navajo culture, learning about their traditions and beliefs. While there, we also perform service with the local community. This is an amazing opportunity for students to experience a culture and environment that is completely new, and to learn from that experience.
