1962
Verbum Dei opens for the young men of Watts, at the former St. Leo's Parish on Imperial Boulevard.
1969-74
Six consecutive CIF basketball championships and a record of 263–21.
1981-82
Historic back-to-back undefeated football seasons under Coach Lalo Mendoza. 26–0.
1994
The Shea family's gift doubles the campus and builds the library and gym still in use today.
2002
On September 3, the first students leave campus for a day of work. Corporate Work Study begins.
2022
The school becomes Verbum Dei Jesuit High School, a private Jesuit school in the Archdiocese of LA.

Every student here works one day a week at a professional office, all four years. That only happens because employers say yes. You know what it did for you, and you know who in your building decides.
Career Day
Talk about what you do, how you got there, and what you wish someone had told you at seventeen. Bring something from the job if you can. The unusual trades land hardest.
Be the mentor you once needed
Your experience can change a young man's future. Share your professional knowledge, offer guidance, and help a Verbum Dei student navigate the path from high school to college and career. Sometimes, all it takes is someone who believes in you and shows you what's possible.
Be a class leader and continue the legacy
Be the connection that keeps your classmates engaged with Verbum Dei. As an Class Leader, you'll help organize reunions, reconnect classmates, share school news, and inspire your fellow alumni to stay involved. Great classes don't stop being great after graduation. Help yours stay connected and give back to the next generation of Verbum Dei students.
